Threatening calls from fake Internal Revenue Service agents demanding money are the most common scam in Connecticut right now, but all of the frauds reported in a new national study are also common here, according to the state’s Better Business Bureau.
The Federal Trade Commission study examined 17 types of fraud and estimated the number of victims of each, using 2011 data, the most recent available. Weight loss supplements, “free’’ trips and other prize promotions, and unauthorized billing for internet services are among the most common types of consumer fraud, the study found.
