“Scotland: Not Just Men in Skirts” at Bethel Public Library
The Bethel Public Library is pleased to present “Scotland: Not Just Men in Skirts,” an enlightening talk by Edinburgh native Chris Graham on Monday January 25, 7:00-8:00 pm. Mr. Graham will offer a wide-ranging presentation covering Scotland’s history and culture, with particular attention to the many contributions made by the Scots in medicine, education, engineering, economics, and literature.
Because this evening falls on Burns Night, which commemorates the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns, we will celebrate with light refreshments and a wee bit of entertainment.
Registration is required. Please register through the Library’s online calendar at www.bethellibrary.org, call the Library at 203-794-8756 x4, or sign up at the Library’s Reference Desk, Bethel Public Library, and 189 Greenwood Avenue.

Howlett, will perform Handel’s Messiah at First Congregational Church, 164 Deer Hill Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810. Admission is free, though donations are gratefully accepted at the door. The performance features soloists Regina Krawiec, soprano; Drew Minter, countertenor; James Ruff, tenor; and Paul M. Speiser, baritone.
Danbury Music Centre, home of Danbury Concert Chorus and Danbury Symphony Orchestra, is celebrating its 80th anniversary season this year. Since 1956, Danbury Music Centre has been performing Handel’s Messiah for the greater Danbury community.
Preferred Utilities, admission to the performance on December 4th is free, although donations to Danbury Music Centre are gratefully received. David Bohn, President and CEO of Preferred Utilities, said of their sponsorship, “My family and I regularly have gotten tickets to Handel’s Messiah at Symphony Hall in Boston, or at The Lincoln Center in New York City. After attending the Danbury Music Center’s production of the Messiah, I was amazed by the excellence of the performance, and the sense of our community coming together to celebrate the true meaning of the Christmas season, by hearing the words of the Bible set to music by Handel in his marvelous and timeless Messiah. It is now my great pleasure to be a part of this superb and beautiful tradition.”
This annual performance has become a beloved holiday tradition for performers and audience alike. Many singers in Danbury Concert Chorus have long histories with the ensemble. For example, Toni Pepe, an alto with the group, is celebrating her forty-fifth season singing with Danbury Concert Chorus.
All are invited to join Danbury Music Centre for this concert December 4th at First Congregational Church. For more information, call 203-748-1716 or visitdanburymusiccentre.org
