Free flu shots available
AmeriCares and Walgreens will offer free flu shots for the uninsured in Danbury from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Boehringer Ingelheim AmeriCares Free Clinic, 76 West St.
Flu shots will be available at no cost for eligible residents age 18 and older without health insurance. The walk-in clinic will offer immunizations on a first-come, first-served basis and administered by a Walgreens pharmacist. Participants cannot have any health insurance, including Medicaid.
The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get vaccinated by October. The flu vaccine prevented about 7.2 million illnesses and 90,000 flu-related hospitalizations in the 2013-14 flu season, according to the CDC.
