August 30, 2015 - By: Danbury-Seniors
September is National Senior Center month and the Elmwood Hall Senior Center is ready to celebrate! Why celebrate you might ask? Well, that is because the 2015 theme of National Senior Center month is: Celebrate LIFE at Your Senior Center! LIFE is an acronym for Learning, Independence, Friends and Energy. So many of the programs we offer, not only this month, but every month, honor this theme. For example: Learning – Join us for a seminar by Historian Art Gottlieb on “The Statue of Liberty,” or try out our Drama Club to see if acting is your thing. Independence – The SweetHART Bus is available for your transportation needs. It can help to keep you independent and getting to your appointments. Staff from SweetHART will be here during the month of September to get you up and running with the bus. Or try our Diabetes Prevention Program, a partnership with the YMCA. Staying healthy is a great way to ensure independence. Friends – There is no better way to find friends then to focus on an activity you love and find others who feel the same way. This can be achieved in so many of our leisure time activities from Woodcarving, to the Ukulele Club, to Elmwood’s Finest – our chorus. Energy – Wow, just try our Zumba Gold class, or Line Dancing, or Strength Training. So many studies show that physical activity leads to a healthier and more energetic life. And remember, senior centers are the focal point for activities, resources, and information about so many aspects of life as we age. If you have a question, just call. While we don’t always want to think about getting older and what that might mean, your senior center is an entry point to getting information and the answers you need. We are here when you need us and we always encourage questions to help plan in advance. So do stop by and get to know us, even it’s just for a cup of our great coffee.
